Daihongan


This is a temple belonging to the Jodo sect.It is the residence of Abbess Chiko Ichijo, the high priestess of the Jodo sect. The chief abbesses of Daihongan are selected from among the Imperial Family and noble families closely connected with it. The present abbess comes from the Ichijo Family. She observes the commandments strictly and leads an ascetic life. She is an excellent calligrapher and is one of the Three Shonin (Saints) of Japan.
