EThe cultures of rice cake was transmitted from Southeast Asia

Japanese specially have a characteristic taste for a stickiness

In Nara period, rice cake ("mochi") were eaten as confectioneries
by families of nobility.In the Kamakura period, various kinds of
rice cakes, such as "botamochi", "yakimochi" and "chimaki" became
available generally. Rice cakes became more popular still In the
Edo period, being served at annual functions and events and sold
as special local products along the roadsides of various areas.
